Ilmenau meeting marks key milestone toward clinical testing

The General Assembly Meeting of the European project, in which EPF is involved as an industrial and technological partner and leader of Work Package 2 (WP2) dedicated to the development of the mechanical components of the prototypes, was held at Technische Universität Ilmenau (Thuringia, Germany).

The meeting provided an important opportunity for all consortium partners to review the progress of the three devices being developed by Politecnico di Torino (POLITO), Technische Universität Ilmenau (TUIL), and Czech Technical University (CTU). Discussions focused on the current status of the systems, the challenges encountered so far, and the activities still required before the start of clinical testing in hospitals, scheduled for late 2026.

Hosted by Professor Marko Helbig of TU Ilmenau and by Ilmsens GmbH, the project’s technology partner responsible for the electronic devices used in antenna signal management, participants had the opportunity to visit the company’s laboratories and research facilities and gain insight into the latest technological solutions being implemented within the project.

During the meeting, EPF presented the achievements reached within WP2, highlighting the technological innovations introduced in the prototype developed for Politecnico di Torino, which has recently reached a configuration very close to the final version envisaged by the project.

At the same time, work is nearing completion on the analysis of the images collected during the first laboratory testing campaign, a key step in validating system performance and preparing for the next experimental phases.

The General Assembly also provided an opportunity to discuss future developments and potential applications of the project, reaffirming the consortium’s interest in further technological advancements and opportunities for industrial exploitation.

The programme included a training session led by Professor Mouad Addad, focusing on the analysis of SSTDR results obtained using an alternative hardware device developed by Keysight, offering partners valuable technical and methodological insights.

The meeting in Ilmenau once again highlighted the importance of international collaboration between universities, research centres and industry partners as a key factor in transforming technological innovation into practical solutions ready for future clinical applications.
