MedWaveImage: project progress update

The MedWaveImage project, funded by the Interreg Central Europe programme, continues to make significant progress towards the clinical application of microwave imaging technology. The initiative aims to develop innovative solutions for medical imaging, offering a safe and cost-effective alternative to traditional diagnostic methods while improving access to the diagnosis of various pathologies.

The project involves the development of three different microwave-based imaging devices, designed to demonstrate the potential of this technology in diagnostic applications. Among these, EPF has fully designed and developed a helmet for brain imaging, conceived to enable image acquisition through a system of sensors arranged around the patient’s head. The device represents an innovative and non-invasive solution to support the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological conditions.

Following the initial results achieved during the early stages of the project, Work Package 2 (WP2) is currently nearing completion, marking an important step toward the operational validation of the devices.

The project is now preparing to enter a crucial stage: Work Package 3 (WP3), dedicated to clinical trials. This phase will allow the technology to be tested in real clinical settings, with the aim of further evaluating the performance of the devices and supporting their future adoption within European healthcare systems.

The MedWaveImage project represents an important example of collaboration between universities, research centres and technology companies, with the goal of transferring innovation from research laboratories to hospitals and making medical diagnostics increasingly accessible, safe and efficient.
