The MedWaveImage project, funded by the Interreg Central Europe program, aims to develop innovative medical imaging solutions based on microwave technology, providing a safe and cost-effective alternative to traditional methods and making the diagnosis of various diseases more accessible.

Thanks to collaboration between universities, research centers, and technology companies, the project is driving the development of portable and user-friendly devices, designed to enhance diagnostic efficiency in clinical and hospital settings. EPF, the only Italian partner, plays an active role in the design and development of the device and the implementation of AI-based technologies for image analysis. This helps refine diagnostic accuracy, ensuring more reliable and effective results.

Microwave Imaging (MWI) uses low-power electromagnetic waves to generate images of biological tissues, offering several key advantages:

  • Safety: No ionizing radiation, reducing risks for patients.
  • Portability and cost reduction: Compact and more affordable devices compared to traditional imaging technologies, making them suitable for healthcare facilities with limited resources.
  • Advanced diagnostics: AI algorithms enhance image analysis and interpretation, improving diagnostic precision.

The project is structured into three work packages and is expected to be completed by 2026. EPF will lead the “Industrial Development” phase, ensuring a smooth transition from research to practical implementation.

MedWaveImage represents a major step forward in medical innovation, aiming to provide more accessible and efficient tools for disease diagnosis and monitoring.
