EPF Plastic and Shibaura Machine have decided to use the EC230SXII full-electric machine for the complex moulding of a thin-walled tray (0,45 mm) for the food packaging industry, integrating it with an IML automation managed by a Cartesian robot that applies the label to the product.
The project has achieved excellent results in terms of cycle time as well as the quality of the moulded tray. The mould has been tested with both PP and PLA with excellent results, demonstrating an important process control ability of Shibaura machines that, with full-electric injection unit, are able to manage injection speed and pressure accurately and punctually. Although the wall of the tray was very thin (0,45 mm) and the flow length relatively high (175 mm), the injection peak was always contained below 2,000 bar and the injection rate below 250 mm/s.
The system has been configured to achieve high productivity and flexibility and to reduce cycle times.
Shibaura Machine full-electric IMM also provide greater precision and repeatability in machining, thanks to the introduction of the V70 controller, which, thanks to numerous software features as standard, has made the process even more stable and efficient.
To objectively quantify energy savings, EPF Plastic compared two IMM of the same tonnage: a full-electric EC230SXIII Shibaura Machine with a new generation hydraulic press, obtaining the following results:
